I’m being stalked by my stealth nee smart phone!
April 12, 2012
Smart phones, you say? Stealth phones more likely. With an app tracking your every minute, every call, every picture and every contact you ever made, tell me how you feel – ‘appy or stalked?
I feel violated.
I downloaded a directory assistance app. And handed over rights to have my contact list used and most likely abused.
I downloaded an e-book reader app. And handed over rights to have my phone calls tracked and measured.
I downloaded a social media networking app. And handed over rights to have my address book used, contacts emailed to (without any future notifications to that effect), even post status and recommendations to various sites using my identity, but without my knowledge hereforward.
Huh?
What’s with all the peer pressure? Why this addiction to hoarding names to friends’ lists? Point out the rationale behind milking an imaginary cow and delivering imaginary cream to ‘friends’ who couldn’t, or rather shouldn’t, care less?
I don’t want to be accessible all the time.
I don’t want the world to know what I am doing every minute.
I don’t want to be talked with every second.
And I don’t want some app GPS-tracking me and beaming me across, while I’m quietly doing my business on the pot, to children taking an app break in some sad sweat shop in China.
I am not living in a glass house, for heaven’s sake, and neither should you.
What started sneakily with a social site worming its way into my email address book by asking for and using my email password, has now acquired humungous proportions. How could it be allowed? And would you believe it, today, everyone’s doing it! For the simple reason that we allowed it.
Stop.
This is what I’m going to do.
I’m never app-Net banking again. Never captioning pictures on the Net again. Never downloading another app again if the privacy/confidentiality agreement is not to my liking. Never getting suckered by media reports goading me into downloading the newest trending app.
Hey, but how about an app that combats the stealth? How about an app that stops any other man, machine or technology from accessing my data? Now that’s one app I’d like to download.
Anybody listening?
